The Women’s Rugby team finished the 2006-2007 season undefeated and is headed once more to the national championship game, hosted by Stanford University. The Slugs started off the post-season in Florida last weekend at the USA Rugby Playoffs with two 49-0 wins, one over College of Charleston, South Carolina and the other over Bowdoin College, Maine.
The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, at 12 p.m. The Slugs will be facing off against Iowa State in the battle to determine the best women’s rugby team in the nation.

The Men’s and Women’s teams are headed to Ojai this week to play in the 107th Annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament. The men qualified 10 singles players and five doubles teams for the Division III Men’s draw, and three singles players and one doubles team for the Men’s Independent draw.
The women qualified three singles and one doubles team for the Women’s Independent draw.
The Slugs will leave UCSC on Thursday and battle until the finals on Sunday.
The Ojai tournament, according to the players, is more about bragging rights and showing what they’ve got than anything else.
It gives the players the opportunity to improve their rankings and settle old scores.
“I’m really excited and ready to turn it up down there,” senior Alex Villalobos said. “With the guys on our team this year we’re hoping to go as far as possible in every position and win both the singles and doubles.”
