Over the winter break, while most of us stayed indoors and relaxed, our Slug sports teams stayed on the road and got in plenty of playing time.
Men’s basketball, without any home games this season, traveled all over California and ran into a bit of a cold streak, coming back to Santa Cruz 2-12 overall and 1-9 in Division III.
Next, the men head to Oakland on Tuesday, Jan. 15 to battle Holy Names.
Women’s basketball, also without any home games this season, traveled all the way to Washington for games at the beginning of December and then down to southern California for the end of it. The team, which had a hot winning streak at the beginning of the season, now holds a 6-10 record overall and a 5-6 record in Division III.
The next stop for the women will be in Vallejo on Wednesday, Jan. 16, where they will take on Cal State Maritime.
Men’s volleyball jump-started their season this past weekend, traveling to UC San Diego on Friday and Cal Baptist on Saturday. While results didn’t turn out in favor of the Slugs out on the road, the men return home and will play on Santa Cruz turf this weekend in the East Field House Gym. The Slugs will take on SUNY New Paltz tomorrow and Holy Names on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
Women’s tennis starts its official season this weekend when the team travels down to San Luis Obispo to serve it up against Cal Poly on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.
