This year, UC Santa Cruz rose to second place on the annual list of Peace Corps Top Colleges, its highest ranking since the Peace Corps released its first list in 2003.
Established in 1961 by then-President John F. Kennedy, the Peace Corps is an independent United States federal agency that sends volunteers around the world to work with international governments, schools, nonprofit organizations and more, with the goal of promoting friendship and world unity.
Aimee Munroe, Peace Corps veteran and current coordinator at the Santa Cruz office, volunteered in Niger from 1997 to 1999 and has lived a nomadic lifestyle ever since.
