Resisting arrest
April 24, 2:48 a.m. — A 25-year-old non-UCSC affiliate was arrested at Ranch View Terrace Housing near the West entrance of campus for resisting arrest and for a warrant for domestic violence.

Santa Cruz teen shot and killed near Westside park
April 24, 12:02 a.m. — A 19 -year-old Santa Cruz man and his 15-year-old friend walked back to a park near the Mission Garden Apartments, located on 90 Grandview Avenue. They were confronted by a Hispanic man in his 20’s, described as 5’ 7,’’ with a thin build, dark complexion, and reportedly a “Hispanic” accent, pulled a handgun and fired three to four times from close range at the 19-year-old victim.
The 15-year-old was not hurt. The suspect fled east on Grandview, towards Mission. Emergency medical personel treated the victim and transported him to Dominican Hospital. The victim was then flown to Valley Medical Center in Santa Clara, where he died at 6:45 a.m. Detectives believe the shooting was gang-motivated.
Police say that the victim, a 2009 graduate of Santa Cruz High School, had no gang ties, and he and his friend may have been mistaken for gang members.
Allegedly Intoxicated Driver leads police on chase
April 25, 10:10 p.m. — An SCPD officer on patrol saw a driver run a red light and drive erratically down Ocean Street. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop and instead led SCPD on a chase through Eastside Santa Cruz at speeds exceeding 50 mph. The driver ran multiple red lights before heading east on Highway 1. The vehicle then traveled at 10 mph on the highway and a officer attempted to stop the car and order the driver out.
The driver refused to obey police commands and tried to flee again. After a short distance, the car pulled over again and SCPD, along with the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s office, took the driver into custody.
The suspect, a 33-year-old San Jose woman, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and evading arrest.
