Q&A with Claudia Magaña
by Arianna Puopolo

Claudia Magaña says that serving as SUA’s external vice chair just makes sense. “It’s what’s coming next,” she said.

Magaña is running for the position — which entails the responsibility of representing the SUA to the University of California Student Association (UCSA) and United States Student Association (USSA) and assisting the chair in coordinating advocacy efforts on behalf of student interests in the local, state and national level — unopposed.

But she’s not letting that stop her from being prepared.

After two years working as SUA’s organizing director, Magaña says her experience and love for the organization make her an excellent candidate for external vice chair.

“I’m really well versed on our vision through UCSA and SUA,” she said.

Magaña says one of her primary directives is increasing student voter registration, especially in light of the upcoming gubernatorial race.

She also intends to advocate for proper funding for higher education.

Magaña, a combined politics and Latin American and Latino studies and sociology double major, says she wants to stay engaged and looks forward to serving SUA and UCSC as external vice chair, next year.

She said: “it’s the best way I can continue doing service to this movement.”
