UAW STRIKES, 20 Arrested on First Day
It was just after 6 a.m. when the first arrest was made. Police in riot gear first detained union leader Josh Brahinsky. An hour later, 19 more students — 13 undergraduates and six graduate students — were handcuffed and escorted to Santa Cruz County Jail for allegedly blocking roads and UC Santa Cruz’s West entrance.
Student Workers Protest for Quality of Life and Education
As the crowd chanted “UC turn the page, I demand a higher wage,” a group of about 50 protestors hoisted up signs with several indications of their demands for improving the quality of life for teaching assistants and other student workers.
