Director Joshua Oppenheimer will accompany his documentary “The Act Of Killing” for a screening and Q&A on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
The award-winning film looks at a country where death squad leaders are celebrated as heroes. By re-creating the killings for the camera, the squads portray their violent lives in dramatic reenactments reflecting certain movie genres, ranging from Westerns, gangster flicks and even musicals.
The film is a bizarre and surreal take on the mind of these mass murderers and the lives they lead. Presented at the 2012 Toronto and Telluride film festivals, “The Act of Killing” won an Audience Award at the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival and is up for a 2014 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
“The Act Of Killing” screening with Joshua Oppenheimer will be held at Communications 150 (Studio C) at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30th.
