UC Santa Cruz dean of students and associate vice chancellor Alma Sifuentes Moreno was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) on Jan. 25 at 3:01 a.m.

Moreno was pulled over at the Mar Monte off-ramp on Highway 1, booked on a suspicion of DUI in the Santa Cruz County Jail and released at 4:27 a.m. on the same day, according to the arrest log on the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s website. Moreno’s bond was set at $2,000.

As dean of students and associate vice chancellor, Moreno is currently responsible for leading approximately 200 professional staff members, including an assistant dean of students and over 25 directors and managers. She also oversees a budget of close to $30 million, according to the dean of students website.

Moreno, who graduated from UCSC in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in economics, has worked in student affairs at UCSC for more than 30 years. At UCSC, Moreno previously held positions such as internal director of Student Organization Advising and Resources, college administrative officer at Stevenson College and executive director for residential, dining and family services prior to her appointment as associate vice chancellor and dean of students in 2007.
