As you probably noticed, the end of last week had some especially colorful sunsets. I hadn’t tested my new camera on a sunset, so I decided to spend Friday evening in the meadow near the Music Center and Saturday evening at Natural Bridges State Beach. In the short period of time between sundown and dusk, both locations were flooded with a brilliant array of colorful light.
Eye-catching sunsets favor this time of year. When the sun is at its lowest point in the sky, blue and violet light scatters so that red and orange light become more apparent during the later part of the day. In the middle and bottom photo, the sun’s rays pass through the clouds so those same oranges and reds are filtered through at a higher altitude.
