A monthlong investigation led to the arrest of first-year Cowell student Collin Riley Howard for alleged sales and possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, LSD and marijuana, said UC Santa Cruz Chief of Police Nader Oweis.

Campus police arrested 18-year-old Howard on Nov. 28 at 3:15 p.m. after obtaining a search warrant for his dorm room. He was booked into the county jail and made bail shortly after. Howard faces nine total criminal charges — six felonies and three misdemeanors, and plead not guilty to all of them.

The Santa Cruz County Superior Court determined the date for the preliminary hearing on Jan. 9, but the date is not yet publicized.

The Student Conduct division of the Office of the Dean of Students has yet to determine further action, and couldn’t be reached for comment at time of print.

Oweis said an investigation on the scope of Howard’s actions is ongoing and encourages anyone with information regarding his activities to come to the police department or call dispatch at 831-459-2231.
