Bottled Water Prohibited for City Employees
Growing concerns for the environmental impact of rapidly-accumulated rubbish have prompted a new Santa Cruz City Council policy. On Oct. 11, the city council prohibited the city of Santa Cruz purchasing single-use bottled water for city offices in a 6-0 vote.

Brown Vetoes SB 185
Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed SB 185 last Saturday. Brown said Proposition 209 motivated the veto, as the proposition does not allow college admissions to factor gender and ethnicity in their decision. Brown said that he does however support the aims of the bill.
