Primer is City on a Hill Press’ back-to-school publication on the news, tips, and guides you need to know about as students head back to campus. 

This is the first edition of City on a Hill Press’ 58th volume. We are a newspaper written by students, for students, 100 percent independent from the campus administration. For more than a half century, we have served to watchdog the university, spotlight underrepresented voices, and uplift our fellow students. City on a Hill Press continues to represent student sentiment and activism. We represent one-fifth of the First Amendment, and for over 50 years, we have made sure that students could exercise the rest of it.

We hope that these stories gives you a better understanding of the student experience in Santa Cruz. In keeping you as informed as possible, may you go forth and make change in whatever way you see fit.
